As Hatch Lectures on Bipartisanship, Wilson Reminds Him that He Failed to Hold a Hearing on Health Care Reform

SALT LAKE CITY – Today, Salt Lake County Council member, fifth-generation Utahn, and candidate for U.S. Senate Jenny Wilson responded to Sen. Orrin Hatch’s floor statement in which he preached about bipartisanship and bragged about his leadership as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

Wilson issued the following statement:

“Utahns are smart enough to see through this kind of Washington doublespeak. I would like to remind Senator Hatch that he refused to hold a hearing on health care reform in the committee he controls. Given that he is responsible for the partisanship that consumes Congress, it is audacious for him to now preach empty words about bipartisanship and brag about his work as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. He can say what he wants about the Affordable Care Act, but the fact of the matter is that bipartisan Senate Finance Committee hearings were held in that committee under a different chairman. Hatch was correct today when he said he once believed in bipartisanship and compromise, but after his 40 years in the Senate, Washington has changed and so has he.”
