Jenny Wilson: Hatch’s New Tune on Russia Contradicts Months of Dismissing Need for Strong Russia Investigation

SALT LAKE CITY – Today, Salt Lake County Council member, fifth-generation Utahn, and candidate for U.S. Senate Jenny Wilson called out Sen. Orrin Hatch for claiming he is “stepping up” in investigating Russia after months of dismissing the need for a strong inquiry into Russian meddling in the U.S. election.

Hatch today claimed that “Republicans are stepping up” in investigating Russia and said, “I don’t want to hear anyone complaining that we aren’t standing up and doing what is necessary here to get to the bottom of these things.” But the fact is that Hatch has a long history of doing the exact opposite:

“Hatch is months behind his fellow Republicans in taking this situation seriously, if in fact that is now the case,” said Wilson. “From the beginning, Hatch has dismissed the need for a strong investigation into Russian meddling in the U.S. election and he has not given Utahns confidence that he takes his responsibility seriously. Hatch has long prided himself in holding the presidential administration accountable regardless of who is in the White House, but after 40 years in Washington he has given up that responsibility.”
